Mississippi Employer Cultivation - Grower - Agricultural Worker in McComb, Mississippi

 

Position Summary

Works with the growing, care and maintenance of the company's horticultural products that are produced for wholesale or retail sales.  Applies technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount and type of nutrient applications; regulate humidity, ventilation, temperature and amount of light; and dispense fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.  Monitors crop development and the removal of substandard plants to maintain quality standards.

CORE EXPECTATIONS 

 

Discusses plant growing activities with Head Grower to plan for growing activities that are consistent with planned production schedules.

Prepares space required for planned production.

Monitors growing conditions and discusses changes in humidity, moisture and temperature and cultivation procedures with head growers to ensure conformance with quality control standards.

Maintains records of growing techniques and production to be used for review to identify trends and to forecast 

future space needs.

May assist in training new employees in growing techniques and activities. Assists the Head Grower and performs other duties as assigned.

Your responsibilities will include preparing the necessary space for production closely monitoring growing conditions, and maintaining adherence to quality control standards.

You will regularly inspect crops, identifying and removing substandard or diseased plants to ensure optimal quality.

Following directions, you will apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides as needed.

Additionally, you will contribute to the development of growing procedures for new species and cultivation techniques.

Keeping detailed records, you will track growing techniques and production data to identify trends and forecast future space requirements.

Training new employees and staying updated on industry advancements will be essential.

As a valued member of the team, you will also support the Head Grower and perform assigned duties. Additional expectations will be communicated by the company.

Core Competencies

Ability to calculate figures, amounts, proportions, percentages, and volume related to fertilizers, chemicals, and water application. Proficient in applying algebra and geometry principles for relevant procedures.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, senior support personnel, high-level personnel, and customers.

Strong problem-solving skills, data collection ability, and analytical thinking to identify various conditions such as plant diseases, insect presence, etc.

Knowledgeable about major plant groups, their culture, and growth traits.

Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Strong planning, organizing, and attention to detail.

Adaptable and skilled in multitasking, with experience in fast-paced environments.

Ability to foster positive working relationships.

Additional core competencies will be specified by the company.

Experience and Education

Demonstrated proficiency in operating injectors, electrical conductivity and pH meters, boom and irrigation systems.

Comprehensive understanding of water lines and ability to monitor and regulate conditions such as ventilation, light, temperature, and humidity.

Extensive knowledge of the safe handling and application of chemicals, including fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides

.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Capable of working in environments with high humidity and fluctuating temperatures, along with a moderate level of moisture.

Able to exert force ranging from 15 to 50 pounds occasionally, frequently handling 20 pounds of force, and constantly managing 10 pounds of force to lift and transport items.

Skilled in maintaining balance, reaching, and gripping while using step stools or ladders.

Proficient in crouching, grasping, and lifting items above shoulder level, ensuring proper lifting techniques from the floor.

Comfortable being on feet for extended periods during job duties.

Accommodating to sitting for prolonged durations, depending on the role, or transitioning between sitting and standing throughout the work shift.

REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE

This position requires a 40âÂ?Â?hour minimum work week.  Willingness to work weekends.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS   

Report to a Head Grower and/or manager or higher.  Work closely with peer and other employees and departments in the company.
