Scope of Job

Responsible for developing and managing comprehensive alumni programs that involves legacy alumni, recent graduates, and current students to increase alumni support of the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley.

Description of Duties

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the office with minimal supervision; proposes and implements improvements to current processes and procedures.

  • Develops and manages comprehensive alumni programs that involve legacy alumni, recent graduates, and current students.

  • Creates opportunities for graduates and students to participate in educational, professional, social, and service-oriented projects and events designed to develop an alumni leadership base and foster lifelong relationships that will lead to increased alumni support of the university.

  • Plans and organizes alumni events, which include but are not limited to: Homecoming, Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner, alumni campus visits, and student events.

  • Works with the Annual Giving staff to increase alumni giving through the use of volunteer leadership, individual cultivation, and prospect management.

  • Works with University Marketing and Communications on alumni website and social media channels to create engaging content while ensuring it aligns with the institution’s branding guidelines.

  • Establishes, analyzes, and maintains a network of key contacts to aid in development and efforts to strengthen alumni involvement.

  • Coordinates and conceptualizes communications for the Alumni Advisory Council and serves as the Alumni Council liaison by supporting the EVP for Institutional Advancement, organizing, and assisting at the council meetings.

  • Maintains regular contact with alumni via newsletters, mail outs, and social media channels.

  • Creates and maintains events that provide a touchpoint for all alumni age groups.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of experience in development and alumni relations, with a strong emphasis on special events coordination and volunteer management within a university setting.

Preferred Experience

Experience in public relations practices, marketing techniques, or fundraising.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; ability to work weekends and/or evenings as needed; regular travel is required within the Rio Grande Valley and occasional out-of-town travel. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.

Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Strong skills in writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication. Ability to work effectively with large and small groups of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and community leaders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills on internal and external issues. Knowledge of methods utilized in program development.
