POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: PLANT MECHANIC

DUTIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position within the organization is to maintain and repair all machinery

at the water and wastewater plants and lift stations.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees

may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Maintain, troubleshoot and make repairs at lift stations and plants to ensure they are running

properly. Maintain and repair pumps and motors, aerators, blowers, etc.

Fabricate, weld and assemble frames and bases for pumps and motors; When replacements for

broken and defective parts are not readily available, or when a machine must quickly return to

production mechanics may sketch a part to be fabricated by the plants machine shop; Use

catalogs to order replacement parts.

Mow and maintain grounds around shop area.

Assist with Inventory.

Perform preventive maintenance on all mechanical equipment.

Schedule contractor repairs.

Order parts and work with vendors.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment by cleaning buildings and offices.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: Mathematics deals with quantities, magnitudes, and

forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.

Uses basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and

solid figures, circumferences, areas, and volumes and/or computing discounts and interest

rates.

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Communications involves the ability to read, write,

and speak.

Reads routine sentences or instructions; writes routine sentences and completes routine work

forms; speaks routine sentences using standard grammar.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Complexity of Work addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity,

creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.

Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires normal

attention for accurate results.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Impact of Decisions refers to consequences such as damage to

property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death

to individuals.

Makes decisions with minor impact - affects only those in immediate work area.

EQUIPMENT USAGE: Equipment Usage refers to inanimate objects such as substances,

materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape,

form, and other physical characteristics.

Involves operations of moderate scope. Equipment used may include a service truck with

crane, mechanic tools and some heavy equipment.
