This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Is located in the Qualifications Section. Responsibilities Set up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, bench, plane or universal millings machines, shapers, planers grinders and radial drills. Lay out work from blueprints, sketches and work orders, model of part to be made, or other specification and determines proper tools and attachments to use. Determine speeds, feeds and coolants, lubricants or adhesives to be used to cut, turn, drill, mill, bore and tap to finish item. Operate precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, surface and height gauges, squares, dial indicators and comparators. Calculate mathematical computations and apply formulas to establish dimensions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position will serve as a multi-faceted role for the planning and execution of industrial equipment maintenance, repair, installation, and production facility utilization located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machinist without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including manufacture castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications using various metals and materials, use of various tools to perform these tasks and working with blueprints and other layout work. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Is required to stand, stoop, bend and reach; and frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works inside in areas that are noisy and dirty, and where there is a danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles, and hot metal; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, and moving parts of the machines. May be exposed to explosive hazards while working on production equipment while explosive operations are in progress. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Recruitment, Relocation, and Retention Incentives are not authorized. Relocation (Government Home Sale) Expenses are not authorized. This position may require overtime work. This position may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to cover work performed on weekends, holidays and/or in other situations. This position may require you to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing. This is a Bargaining Unit position AR3135. Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 6 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
