POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ASSISTANT COOK

DUTIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position within the organization is to assists in the preparation,

cooking and serving of foods in a nutrition program.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees

may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Assist in preparing and cooking all foods.

Assist cook in serving standardized portions during the meal.

Keeps working areas and equipment clean and sanitary.

Assist in the care and maintenance of equipment.

Maintains high standards of sanitation in food handling and in all work areas.

Relieves the cook on specific shifts, or, when the cook is absent from work for any reason.

Ability to follow instructions, work within established guidelines and procedures; and establish

and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and nutrition program

participants.

Physically able to lift or move 30 pound objects.

Must be 21 years old or older.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education Requirements refers to job specific training and

education required for entry into the position.

Prefer High School diploma, GED and formal training, special courses or self-education that is

equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced

training.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Licenses, Certifications,

and Registrations refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations

required to enter the position.

Required to obtain food handlers permit.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience Requirements refers to the amount of work

experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation

that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.

Requires one year of related experience. Knowledge of health regulation for food handlers

preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical Demands refers to the requirements for physical exertion and

coordination of limb and body movement.

Requires light work involving standing or walking most of the time, exerting up to 30 pounds of

force on a regular basis, and moderate dexterity in operating machinery, tools, or office

equipment.

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS: Unavoidable Hazards refers to unusual conditions in the work

environment that may cause illness or injury.

The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards. May sometimes be exposed to

bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, or fumes or noxious odors. Exposed to cleaning chemicals (ie,

bleach, oven cleaners, etc.).

SENSORY (ADA) REQUIREMENTS: Sensory Requirements refers to hearing, sight, touch,

taste, and smell necessary to perform the tasks required by the position efficiently.

The position may require normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color

perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, or texture perception.
