Job Summary

In this role, the Cytopreparatory Technician will receive and evaluate cytology specimens to ensure positive sample identification and appropriateness. Process gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspirations slides for diagnostic evaluation by cytopathology technologists and pathologists. Utilize the pathology computer system to provide accurate information for testing, tracking and reporting

What you'll do:

  • Receive specimens or slides, assess acceptability and accession cytopathology cases into the pathology information system

  • Process gynecological, and non-gynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations slides for diagnostic evaluation by the cytotechnologists and pathologists

  • Maintain appropriate department supply inventory

  • Sort vials for testing sent to reference labs

  • Recognize, document and resolve specimen identification errors

  • Store specimens appropriately

  • Operate and maintain department equipment as required

  • Prepare cell blocks for Histology

  • File and retrieve slides and requisitions

What you'll need:

Required:

  • High School Diploma

  • 1 year of previous job-related experience

Preferred:

  • 1 year of Anatomic Pathology experience preferred.
