Agricultural Research Service Biological Science Aid in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico
Summary This position is located in Tropical Crops & Germplasm Research, Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, located in Mayaguez, PR. In this position, you will perform standardized tests, procedures, routines, or operations of basic biological science in support of research projects. This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 5 years. Responsibilities Performs tasks such as watering, fertilizing, weeding, potting, and maintaining plants. Keeps exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments. Operates a computer using word processing or other software programs. Prepares labels for specimens. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-03 General Experience: The general experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-03 includes (6) months of general experience. For this position general experience is defined as (1) any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. General experience can be obtained in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse. OR Education: The successful completion of one full year of study above the high school level that included 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. OR A combination of experience and education as described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
