Air Education and Training Command Director Muir S Fairchild Information Center in Maxwell AFB, Alabama

Summary This position leads the Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center (MSFRIC), encompassing the Library, Teaching & Learning Center, and AU Press. Responsibilities include providing strategic direction, managing teams and programs, and offering expertise in academic operations (faculty & student support). Reports to the Air University Provost and Chief Academic Officer and Deputy Provost. Responsibilities Directs the activities of the MSFRIC, providing advice, consultation, management, and governance related to the assigned portions of AU's academic enterprise. Collaborates with learning professionals across DOD and academia to maintain understanding of innovative learning methods and improve AU's educational programs. Maintains personal credibility as a scholar. Faculty-member and subject-matter expert. Aids the supervisor in various aspects, including manpower management, budgeting, and overseeing the implementation of academic procedures. Offers counsel to AU leadership on faculty-related concerns spanning multiple schools, proficiently coordinating related events. Furthermore, undertakes supplementary duties to enhance the effectiveness of the AU/CC, CV, CAO, Deputy Provost and the Academic Affairs Team and the Teaching and Learning Center. Professional knowledge of current principles and philosophy of education, its theories, practices, and techniques. Professional knowledge of academic support services, to include library services, and teaching and learning center services. Ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with others throughout the college and university. Ability to effectively prioritize and organize assigned activities to meet short and long-range goals and objectives. Ability to evaluate information related to programs, materials, and individuals, determine effectiveness, identify problems, and recommend solutions. Knowledge of personnel policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of the organization and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. The degree should be from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in a discipline appropriate to the AU mission. Areas of studies ideally should include organizational change/process improvement, student/faculty/staff services, library services, curriculum development, teaching, learning, writing and study methods, principles and techniques or demonstrated job/career/academic professional experience for consideration as equivalent in those areas. Additional Information The position will be an initial three-year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms.
