Abbott EHS Senior Specialist in Matsudo-shi, Japan

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional EHS and Product Stewardship procedures and programs.

• Develop, conduct & coordinate EHS & associated trainings

• Conduct environmental, health & safety risk assessments

• Develop, implement and manage plant environmental programs

• Develop procedures and other documentation in compliance with local regulations, Abbott requirements and ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Standards.

• Collates EHS and Product Stewardship data as required and upload into corporate systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data.

• Assists with accident/incident investigations and corrective actions

• Conduct frequent EHS tours/audits of all plant areas and make recommendations for corrective actions for all environmental, safety and health problems noted

• Review the installation and modification of all equipment/processes for EHS issues

• Assist management in preparing a variety of EHS presentations

• Keep informed on current environmental, health and safety regulations and legislation and recommend policy changes

• Maintain files and records pertaining to environmental, safety and industrial hygiene

• Maintain site environmental reports and permits

• Conduct site regulatory inspections

• Respond to and address day-to-day issues appropriately.

• Support the site product stewardship program

• Support compliance with geography specific restricted substance requirements (e.g., RoHS, REACH) and Abbott Restricted Substance Management (RSM) requirements

• Facilitate division compliance with all Substance of Concern reporting requirements

• Support maintenance of the site product stewardship database

Skills/Experience Required:

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS

• Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or related field

• Technical expertise in EHS with a focus on the environmental; plant level experience is preferred

• Working knowledge of applicable local regulations

• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into policies and procedures

• Strong Japanese and English written and verbal communication skills

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently to drive for results

• Team player with the ability to bring consensus among multiple groups

• Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate corrective actions / mitigation measures

Education/Requirements:

• A four-year degree is required – Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or related field
