We are looking for talented Design Engineer looking to join a highly collaborative and energetic staff of engineers! As a Design Engineer at Dart, you will have the opportunity to apply design engineering knowledge and skills for moderately complex engineering projects that center around food service product formation and process. Our diverse product portfolio provides opportunities in thermoforming, paper cup and plate, injection molding and molded fiber. Design engineers can expect to oversee their work from the infancy of product model concept to tooling/mold design, followed by fabrication to installation and start up. This gives complete oversight and accountability with the satisfaction of complete accomplishment.
This position includes up to 40% domestic and international travel. For those days you are not traveling, Dart employees enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule, working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Day-to-Day Role:
Participate in and complete projects or programs of minimal size, scope, and duration
Develop knowledge of processes, equipment, raw materials, tooling, and products
Assist in designing products, components, assemblies, tooling, and/or equipment
Conduct research and analysis, and recommend designs
Create 3D models of moderately complex systems or products using CAD
Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Coordinate interrelated designs
Create parts list
Receive and review process and product requirements, work with suppliers to obtain information and quotes, and generate specifications
Document and track technical changes and/or improvements
Participate in the assembly, testing, and implementation of packaging equipment or equipment upgrades
Oversee prototyping and create samples
Identify broad conceptual ideas and develop them into useful solutions
Participate in troubleshooting, analysis, evaluation, implementation, and documentation of engineering solutions
Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve equipment, processes, and products
Recommend test parameters and participate in the testing and implementation of engineering solutions
Recommend continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for all levels must possess all of the following:
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Ability to learn and understand raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks in both team and independent environments
Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
Up to 40% domestic and international travel
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport
Requires a valid driver’s license and favorable motor vehicle report upon hire
Associate Level:
The ideal candidate must possess one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study, OR
Associate’s degree and six (6) years of related engineering experience, OR
Mid-Level:
The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and three (3) years of related engineering experience OR
Associate’s degree and nine (9) years of related engineering experience
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Senior Level:
The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in engineering or related field of study and six (6) years of related engineering experience, OR
Associate’s degree and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience
Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Advanced knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of products
Ability to successfully prioritize, and manage large, complex projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
Abililty to mentor lower-level engineers
