Wiley University University Police Officer - Marshall in Marshall, Texas

**Wiley University in Marshall is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Police Officer position.

Under general supervision, the police officer will serve as a commissioned law enforcement officer responsible for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors and for the protection of University property.**

The duties of this position includes, but are not limited to:

  • Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, institutional rules and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, and those as directed by the Chief of Police or his designee;
  • Provides for the protection, safety, assistance and welfare of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and all within the area under the control and jurisdiction of Wiley University;
  • Remains alert of threats to the University, and takes action to prevent or remediate those threats and situations that come or are brought to the officer's attention;
  • Maintains a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with all members of the Wiley University community and its visitors;
  • Provides uniform patrol of the campus and its properties, by vehicle, golf cart, foot patrol, or bicycle;
  • Investigates reports of criminal activity, suspicious conditions and circumstances, and writes quality police reports regarding findings and activities;
  • Maintains the security of the University property by opening and closing buildings, identifying and taking corrective action on unsafe conditions and hazards in and on University owned properties;
  • Responds to various security, door, and environmental alarms.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED;
  • Never convicted, pled guilty, been on court-ordered community service, or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor or above;
  • Never been convicted of family or dating violence;
  • Never had a dishonorable discharge in the US Military;
  • Firearm qualified or can be qualified.

Must be able to fulfill the duties of a police officer which includes, but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, as well as law enforcement techniques and procedures;
  • Communicates well in speech and in writing;
  • Possesses good interpersonal skills;
  • Physically able to effect an arrest andsubdue resisting individuals;
  • Walk and / or run short distances;
  • Walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time;
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, nights, and weekends;
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment;
  • Recognize dangerous / hazardous situations;
  • Possess the mental acumen for exercising reasonable and sound judgment under stressful circumstances;
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Work outside and in inclement weather, if necessary.

Certifications:

  • Licensed as a Texas peace officer through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Pay commensurate experience.
  • Full time and part-time positions available.
