Job Summary

The Extension Program Coordinator, 4-H Youth Development supports the promotion, expansion, and implementation of University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Programs in the schools and communities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the Unit\'s Extension Councils, committees, and staff as assigned to plan, promote, implement, and evaluate youth programs in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Program materials and activities will be developed by Extension Educators and/or Campus Specialists. Nationally recognized curriculum may also be utilized. Some specific tasks might include: Arranging for facilities and equipment, recruiting and placing volunteers in key roles, promoting programs via a variety of media, collecting feedback from participants, and preparing reports to describe program accomplishments.

  • Work with County Extension Director, other staff, and local contacts to identify critical needs and issues relating to youth development in the multi-county unit.

  • Assists in formulating and insuring the implementation of standard operating procedures for program activities, including guidelines to insure the safety and welfare of participants.

  • Work with staff and volunteers to collect, process, and maintain program records and data.

  • Conduct evaluations of program activities and recommend continuation, modification, or discontinuance of the program.

  • Submit monthly and quarterly reports.

  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities.

  • Work with Extension staff as well as other agency professionals and volunteers to facilitate programming in the youth development area.

    Perform other duties that contribute to University of Illinois Extension programming, as assigned.

    Duties for this position include work inside the office and the community which require access to transportation. Additionally, some work will require attendance at evening and weekend meetings and events.

Additional Physical Demands

To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. A valid driver\'s license is preferred. Some work ill be required during evenings and/or weekends. When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements. Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or GED

Any one or any combination that equals four (4) years/ 48 months of responsible volunteer or professional work experience in coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities

Volunteer/work experience coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities

College coursework in any field of study

60 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

90 semester hours equals three
