The SMR Mechanical Systems Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This is a technical position that integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization and requires long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within the Systems Engineering area.

Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Hydraulic Systems (MNIHS) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design.
Activities focus on fluid systems and include flow, cleanup, and heat transfer capabilities to meet system requirements. Develop Process Flow Calculations/Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other engineering deliverable documents associated with the systems.
Responsible for development of specifications for fluid system in-line components.
Plan / develop technical and management processes to improve both team and customer productivity
Provide support to the Licensing organization for regulatory related deliverables.
Responsible for analysis and design work supporting requirements specifications
Interface with cross-functional teams and departments to complete these tasks
Improve areas of project execution and department management through Six Sigma methodology
Support development efforts for both new products and new technology
Responsible to undertake the necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality non-compliance monitoring and audit programs
Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Action Work Outs (LAWO).
A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead design activities. Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role
Desired Characteristics
Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline
SRO license qualifications
Ability to lead a team to solve engineering tasks
Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear). Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000). Strong organization skills and problem-solving abilities
Prior experience in system delivery of complex analyses
Strong customer mindset
Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
Six Sigma training is preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
