POSITION SUMMARY

Provide technical guidance, training and coaching to Set-up Mechanics, Line Technicians, Cleaners, Operators, etc. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, set-up and operate manufacturing, processing and plant support equipment. Establish and complete PM’s as required. Support other areas of the business across the Canadian Operations as required / assigned as required / assigned.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Leadership

  • Identify training requirements, help develop training matrices and conduct training/coaching sessions for Maintenance Technicians, Operators and other staff

  • Coordinate with the Technical Supervisor to assist in assigning technical resources and establishing priorities based on operational and business needs

  • Performs other duties as assigned and required

2. Machinery / Repair / Equipment Maintenance

  • Performs repairs on: production-filling equipment, packaging equipment, compounding equipment, material handling equipment, conveyors, case sealers, kettles and process equipment

  • Has a good working knowledge of compressors, boilers and sprinkler systems

  • Machines using lathes, drill presses, band saws and other shop machines or tooling

  • Interface with all packaging, process and support equipment within the site

  • Address equipment failure modes through breakdown analysis, etc.

  • Assist with resolving failure modes of plant support equipment i.e. compressors, heat exchangers, dust collectors, vacuum systems, etc.

  • Identify and recommend for purchase replacement equipment components through interfacing with technical personnel from external contractors/suppliers

3. Equipment Set-up and Operability

  • Perform and assist Line Technicians with set-ups / equipment changeovers for filling, assembly and process equipment including (but not limited to): fillers (lipstick, hot pours, foundation, mascara, etc.), cartoners, over-wrappers, case packers, labelers, lasers, ink jet coders, kettles, mixers, pumps, etc.

  • In-depth troubleshooting of pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • In-depth troubleshooting of drive-mechanisms, including, but not limited to, motors, gearboxes, pulleys and bearings

  • General troubleshooting of PLC/HMI, Photo sensors, Vision Systems, Thermal Printers

  • General electrical troubleshooting as authorized

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, actively participate and support facility and corporate Lean Manufacturing initiatives

  • Participate, support & improve the Site PM/CMMS program

  • Conceptualize and implement design upgrades to outmoded devises and systems in an effort to increase efficiencies

  • Aid in the installation of new equipment

  • Review new equipment purchase specifications. Provide feedback with regards to equipment design and operability

  • Participate, as required, in Factory Acceptance Tests, commissioning and start-up of new equipment installations

  • Assist, as required, in new equipment validations within GMP, OTC and EH&S guidelines

  • Support the New Product Launch process as required

5. Health, Safety and Quality

  • Proactively identify, report and resolve safety concerns

  • Observe and conform to all corporate EH&S and GMP/OTC guidelines and procedures

  • Adhere to all established safety programs, i.e. Lock-out Tag-out, Electrical Safety, etc.

  • Actively participate in applicable Risk Assessment’s, Pre-start Health and Safety Review’s (PSR’s) and hazard assessments as required

  • Actively participate in Near Miss and BBS Observation activities

6. Housekeeping

  • Maintain clean work environment on the production floor and within the maintenance shop

  • Actively participate and support the Canadian Operations 5S Program

Qualifications

Minimum Education Level: Minimum high school education. Post-secondary education and/or trade school training an asset.

Minimum Years of Experience: 3 – 5 years

Required Language Proficiency: English

Licenses or Certifications: Millwright or electrician certification an asset

Additional Job Specifications:

  • Good understanding of basic mechanical principles

  • Ability to apply mechanical knowledge to process equipment to obtain efficient performance

  • Strong working knowledge of PLC’s, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems, strong mechanical aptitude

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • English language proficiency; ability to resolve issues in a tactful and diplomatic manner, communicate expectations and outline maintenance requirements

  • Able to read technical drawings and technical specifications and has a good knowledge of automated/computerized machinery
