The Dow Polyurethanes business inMarietta, GAhas an exciting opportunity for an experienced polyurethane formulator to join our product and application development team as aSenior Research Specialist. As a part of this team, you will lead technical interactions with customers to understand their needs and then collaborate across technical, commercial and manufacturing functions to deliver solutions and provide technical knowledge on the use, handling and management of Dow products to our customers.

In this role, you will work independently or collaboratively with senior scientists and technicians to apply the scientific method and general business knowledge to develop products which meet the performance needs and sustainability objectives of Dow and its customers. You will play a pivotal role in providing technical support for the trials of products at customers' locations as well as the scale-up of new products from our laboratory to production assets. Attention to detail and effective communication skills with cross-functional teams will be critical to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Designs value-creating solutions for the customer in response to presented problems with defined scope and impact

  • Develops hypotheses, plans & executes experiments, interprets results, and modifies hypotheses appropriately

  • Provides technical support for the trial and use of Dow products at customer locations and the scale-up of new product within Dow

  • Collaborates effectively across research, commercial, supply chain and manufacturing departments

  • Participates in the generation of ideas and data to support the development of intellectual capital and effectively protects Dow’s intellectual capital when working with customers

  • Engages in external professional organizations to stay abreast of technology and market trends as well as represent the Dow Polyurethanes brand

  • Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports and presentations

Qualifications

One of the following is required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Science-related discipline AND 5+ years of experience formulating polyurethane products and managing technical projects

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Science-related discipline AND 2+ years of experience formulating polyurethane products and managing technical projects

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Science-related discipline

Additional qualifications include:

  • Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
