The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Fitness Center Management in monitoring and administering various recreational activities and responsibilities. Responsibilities Provides recreational related and core customer service to and guidance to eligible customers of March ARB. Performs duties associated with personal training and/or aerobics classes. Assists in the planning and implementing select core activities such as weight programs. Prepares fields and courts for practice, scheduled season games, tournaments and special events. Determines user eligibility/priority and provides general program and facility information. Cleans and maintains all other areas of the fitness facilities not cleaned and maintained by contract cleaners. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, and Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes experience in exercise physiology, techniques and knowledge of fitness testing and standards to conduct physical fitness assessments, also experience making repairs to fitness equipment. Practical knowledge of indoor recreational activities involved, such as; league tournaments, aerobics, circuit training and personal training sessions as well as safety standards and procedures. General knowledge of outdoor recreational activities involved such as; ball field preparation/ operation for league play and tournaments to include safety standards and procedures. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the day-to day operations of fitness and sports facilities front counter operations to include basic cash transactions and organizing daily paperwork. Practical knowledge of indoor recreational activities involved, such as; league tournaments, aerobics, circuit training and personal training sessions as well as safety standards and procedures. General knowledge of outdoor recreational activities involved, such as; ball field preparation/operation for league play and tournaments to include safety standards and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to instruct group or individual aerobics or personal training sessions from prescribed Air Force guidance. Ability to independently complete assignments involving several steps, phases, or procedures. Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions. Demonstrated current physical ability to administer First Aid and CPR to adults, children, and infants. Skill in operating industrial washer and dryer and various other general housekeeping and cleaning equipment. Skill in the use of automation software and related equipment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
