McDermott Deputy Manager Social Responsibility and National Content in Maputo, Mozambique

Job Overview:

McDermott’s Project Social Sustainability Deputy Manager is a key McDermott representative for the assigned Joint Venture Project. The deputy manager is responsible for day-to-day management of CCS JV’s social projects, in coordination with both the Project and McDermott’s Global Sustainability team

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the social sustainability on behalf of McDermott, in alignment with joint venture partners and client requirements. Areas include but are not limited to:

  • Community initiatives including microenterprise development and agricultural projects

  • Building the capacity of local businesses to participate in global supply chains

  • Management of company community events

  • National content and vocational skills training

  • Stakeholder mapping and engagement, particularity in the region of Cabo Delgado

  • Grievance and complaints management

  • Security and human rights (e.g. ensuring alignment with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights)

  • Day to day management including team, project budget and resources

  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • Coordinating and aligning with other functions, including Site construction management, HR, HSE, Supply Chain and Security

  • Work to CCS JV management systems

  • Promote business objectives including risk reduction, reputational capital, and cost efficiency

  • Ensure compliance with client contractual obligations, national regulation, and international standards, including the IFC Performance Standards, UNGPs, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, UN Global Compact, ISO 26000

  • Adhere to and promote safety and environmental rules and procedures

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.

  • Experience working to international standards (IFC, UN, VPSHR) and preferably working in international organizations.

  • Team management and conflict management skills.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to effectively engage with local communities.

  • Flexibility and willingness to live and work in a remote and dynamic field environment (on a rotational basis)

  • BA/BS in international studies, social sciences, or similar field.

  • Languages: spoken and written English, local languages (Portuguese desirable but not essential)

  • At least 7 years of experience in corporate sustainability project execution, consulting or NGO program management is required; up to 10 years is preferred.
