EHS Manager – Functional Safety Engineer

Mapleton, IL

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

With over 800 employees at the foundry, we are looking for a Functional Safety Manager who will provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to hourly, salaried, and management personnel engaged in Functional Safety activities related to the Mapleton facility.

What you will do:

  • Identifies common and more complex safety, machinery, and process hazards inherent in the organizations operations and establishes guidelines for protection from those hazards.

  • Ensures EHS training is completed to comply with regulatory requirements or in support of facility, division, or enterprise objectives.

  • Audits safety and risk assessment programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.

  • Monitors periodic performance reports for trends and conditions, alerts line management to problems and makes recommendations for improvement.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to evaluate operational changes and improvements.

  • Utilizes functional safety concepts, machine guarding standards, failure modes and effects analysis, and risk analysis to improve risk management.

  • Assists in determining performance requirements for risk reduction measures.

Experience Requirement:

  • Professional experience in functional safety concepts, failure modes and effects analysis, risk analysis, hazard assessment, and instrumentation and controls.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Technology, or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of functional safety standards such as ISO12100, ANSI Z244.1, ANSI B11, 29 CFR 1910, and ANSI/RIA R15.06

Risk Management: Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Interpersonal Relationships: Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Overcoming Resistance to Change: Extensive Experience:

Understanding and insight into the futility of refusing to accept the inevitable and ability to overcome resistance and adapt to a complex and changing environment.

Problem Solving: Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance: Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies; ability to implement EHS policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
