Nextern, Inc. Global Controller in Maple Grove, Minnesota

We are seeking our US/Global Controller to lead our accounting and finance team. We are interested in a strong leader focused on developing their team. Successful candidate will be technically strong and experienced in implementing and maintaining systems, procedures, and policies to ensure the security of assets, as well as timely delivery of complete and accurate financial statements with business insights, as well as bank, audit, tax, and legal compliance. Our US/Global Controller will lead our foreign affiliate Controllers and team with our CFO and local country General Managers located in Costa Rica, Vietnam, and China, overseeing the day-to-day accounting, month-end close, and leading audit/tax activities. Through their leadership we anticipate the successful candidate will directly contribute to the growth, profitability, and strategic direction of Nextern as a whole.

  • Directly manage all Controllers and the US General Ledgers and Consolidation of the Nextern legal entities, both domestic & foreign

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

  • Ensures compliance with US GAAP guidelines and internal finance policies for all Nextern-affiliated entities.

  • Interface with outside CPA firm to coordinate annual tax filings & related requirements

  • Lead the annual external audit process with U.S. auditors, in coordination with foreign auditors responsible for both local and U.S. GAAP requirements

  • Assist CFO and Finance team with financial planning and analysis, Board of Directors reporting and other requirements on an as-needed basis

  • Ownership of the month-end close process globally, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and continual process improvement

  • Provides oversight to ensure financial data are correct and timely. Maintain integrity of financial systems and enhance system reporting and analysis capabilities.

  • Ensure a strong internal control environment is maintained in all areas of Nextern

  • Maintain and optimize current ERP systems and support new system initiatives

  • Provide ERP system support to international accounting sites.

  • Initiate and drive operational improvements.

  • Ensure proper controls on Company investments or assets.

  • Ensures all balance sheet accounts are reconciled properly and show true financial position.

  • Support CFO and Director of FP&A in the day-to-day operations of the business as requested.

  • Assumes other projects and assignments as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university,

  • Ten or more years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 3 years of team leadership experience.

  • CMA and/or CPA certification.

  • MBA is advantageous but not required.

  • Computer skills required: Accounting Software (Epicor or similar ERP system), Concur, FloQast, Microsoft office proficiency, Smartsheet Software (Excel), Word Processing Software (Word), Electronic Mail Software (Outlook), PowerPoint.
