Great Lakes Management Co. Medication Assistant- OVERNIGHT POSITION in Mankato, Minnesota
Job Objective(s) This position is responsible for the administration of medication in a safe organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administration of medications and documentation of medication administration. The medication assistant completes required training, communicates with the case manager (nurse) and becomes knowledgeable in the state requirements for medication assistants. Essential Responsibilities Administer medications to residents using the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as a guide. Prepare medication for each resident's medication administration with the following: Right Drug Right time Right route Right resident Right dosage Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, staff and families. Document legibly all resident concerns made while administering the medication. Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart. Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after all medication passes are completed. Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately. Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training sessions required by your supervisor. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Registration as a Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) preferred. Minimum six month experience in long term care or assisted living residence. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to prioritize, and organize work effectively and efficiently. Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations. Must work as a team member with other personnel. Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills. Must be punctual, with good attendance record. Must remain calm in difficult or unusual circumstances. Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in the resident's best interest. Maintains confidentiality Able to read, write, spell, do basic math, speak and understand English. Physical Requirements (based on essential responsibilities) Must be able to frequently perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below: In an 8 hour workday, employee may stand / walk: Hours at one time: 0-1 Total hours / day: 1-6 Employee will lift/carry (Max.lbs.): Frequently: 40 lbs. Occasionally: 70 lbs. Height of lift: 3 - 4 feet In an 8 hour workday, employee may sit: Distance of carry: 30 yards Hours at one time: 0-1 Total hours / day: 0-1 Employee will use hands for repetitive: Simple grasping, pushing and pulling, manipulation Employee will support / assist: (Maximum lbs.) Frequently: 100 lbs. Occasionally: 200 lbs. Employee should be able to: Squat: Frequently Kneel: Frequently Climb: Frequently Reach: Frequently, 3 feet Bend: Frequently Environment The work environment consists of the entire facility including resident's rooms. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal. Inside work while assisting residents. Minimal exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Infectious Diseases. Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Working Hours The work schedule and hours may vary from week to week. The MA will be required to work weekends and holidays and may be required to work beyond the normal schedule.
