As we continue to champion reproductive rights, we are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist with a focus on Union 1199 to join our dedicated HR team.

As the Employee Relations Specialist with a specialization in Union 1199, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining positive employee-employer relations within PPGNY, with a specific emphasis on activities related to Union 1199. You will contribute to the organization's commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services while ensuring a collaborative and respectful work environment.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Union Relations:

o Cultivate and nurture positive relationships with Union 1199 officials, stewards, and members.

o Act as the key liaison between PPGNY and the union, fostering open communication and collaboration.

Collective Bargaining:

o Participate actively in collective bargaining negotiations, representing PPGNY's interests and advocating for the well-being of our employees.

o Collaborate with legal counsel to review and interpret collective bargaining agreements, ensuring alignment with labor laws and industry standards.

Dispute Resolution:

o Facilitate the timely and fair resolution of conflicts between PPGNY and union members.

o Conduct thorough investigations into employee complaints or grievances, ensuring a just and impartial resolution process.

Policy Development:

o Work collaboratively with HR and legal teams to develop and update policies that adhere to Union 1199 agreements and address the unique needs of our workforce.

Employee Engagement:

o Devise and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, job satisfaction, and overall workplace morale, aligning with Union 1199 guidelines.

Training and Education:

o Conduct educational sessions for both management and union members to promote mutual understanding of roles, rights, and responsibilities.

Compliance:

o Stay abreast of changes in labor laws, regulations, and industry trends pertinent to Union 1199, ensuring PPGNY's continued compliance.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and effective dispute resolution strategies.

  • Participation in grievance hearings, writing responses to unions, etc.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Labor Management experience with a proven record in Union negotiations

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Proven experience 4 to 5+ years in employee relations, particularly in unionized environments, preferably with Union 1199.

  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.

All positions at PPGNY require:

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
