We have a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Rail Infrastructure team in Manchester with a focus on one of our key projects – Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). This is an exciting time to join us as a key technology leading contractor for the first in class digital railway sector – digitalizing and modernising the UK railway.

TRU is a significant rail infrastructure project that will be connecting the Northern Powerhouse cities of Manchester, Leeds, Huddersfield, and York. All 76 miles of track will be electrified and re-signalled, supported by the installation of modern communication networks. The result will be faster, longer, more frequent, and reliable services across the north of England, improved passenger capacity with renewed stations and the introduction of new rolling stock as well as enhanced operational efficiency throughout the network.

We are looking for someone who is willing to grow, learn and develop with a view to progress their career into Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager. This is a hybrid/remote role with expectation to travel/commute to local Siemens offices in Manchester or Huddersfield to support business requirements.

You’ll create impact by

  • Providing Siemens with post contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour, whilst mitigating risks.

  • Ensuring projects are successfully delivered within cost and time constraints.

  • Providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering.

  • Being responsible for cost management, including forecasting, budget management and control.

  • Providing input to internal and external commercial reports as required by Commercial Delivery Strategy.

  • Ensuring processes and document control align with the company standards, maintaining auditable records.

  • Working with and collaborating with key partners (finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients).

You’ll win us over by

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) with commercial management experience ideally within a contractor side project delivery environment.

  • Experience ideally gained in a similar or related industry e.g., rail, aerospace, defence, construction, IT.

  • Being commercially savvy with excellent negotiation skills and ability to work with colleagues at senior levels.

  • Good customer facing skills with experience of being actively involved as a team member in high-value, complex bid teams, ideally with experience of proposal and tender writing.

  • Understanding of the technical, contractual, and financial requirements of the commercial management role and their inter-relationship.
