Google Senior News Manager, News Partnerships (English, Spanish) in Madrid, Spain

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience working in regulated market environments.

  • Experience sourcing, negotiating, and closing partnerships.

  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish fluently in order to interact in this customer-facing sales role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the News sector in Spain.

  • Experience executing complex strategic and operational initiatives, with excellent program management skills.

  • Knowledge of the news publishers’ business.

  • Ability to influence partners at executive level and work on multiple work-streams in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment with effective attention to detail.

  • Ability to clarify and communicate complex issues for an executive audience internally and externally with excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to communicate in Portuguese or Italian fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

The EMEA News and Books Partnerships team works to transform Google’s relationships with the news industry in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. We build relationships that solve users’ needs, advance our partners’ goals, and further Google’s mission. Our team provides meaningful solutions, from helping news organizations grow and transform their business and find new audiences, to helping our long-term partners anticipate and navigate change in a way that delivers economic and reputational value. We collaborate across different Product Areas at Google, ensuring a coordinated approach when engaging with our strategic partners, including news associations/trade bodies, to grow our business and theirs, build trust and relationships. Our team collaborates closely with other teams at Google to highlight our work to tell great stories about our engagement with the news industries and influence key opinion formers in our region.

In this role, you will execute the strategy set for Spain, based on new or existing programs and products, together with the cross-functional teams. You will maintain a pulse on the News ecosystem in Spain and Google’s role within it, be an advocate for our partners with internal regional and global stakeholders, and play a pivotal role in shaping Google’s News initiatives. You will work closely with the cross-functional leadership in Spain to ensure the strategy aligns with their activities.

The Global Partnerships organization is responsible for exploring new opportunities with Google's partners. Google’s Global Partnerships team works with a wide range of partners to bring the best of Google to power their business. The Global Partnerships team supports Google’s own Product teams with essential partnerships to help Google’s user experiences in advertising, Search, Assistant, Maps, Travel, Shopping, Payments and more. Teams create product-enabling partnerships, go-to-market strategies and incubate business growth for a variety of products.

  • Own planning and execution of the agreed News Partnerships strategy leveraging existing resources with the objective to address Google’s opportunities and challenges with the news players in Spain from a business and reputational perspective.

  • Maintain effective relationships with publishers, copyright holders and other associations and identify new opportunities to grow the cooperation.

  • Collaborate across different Google teams to drive a partner and industry-centric approach that elevates relationships to the executive level for strategic News partners in Spain.

  • Maintain processing of publisher copyright information and agreements with larger partners and collecting societies in Spain in a timely and correct manner.

  • Resolve counterclaims with other Google teams and publishers and other third-parties. Represent Google externally at relevant industry events.
