Job Description

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Quarry Foreman is responsible for supervising mining and quarrying operations and coordinating the activities of workers and contractors engaged in surface mining operations and quarries. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of materials, managing workers, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

WHEN YOU JOIN US YOU WILL BE;

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of workers who extract minerals and ore, operate above-ground extraction, hauling, and perform other services in support of open-pit mining, or of heavy equipment operators, drillers, blasters, and other workers in surface mining and quarrying

  • Ensure operations follow safety and environmental standards (MOE), including OSHA, MOL, and Common Core Mining

  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors to resolve problems and coordinate activities

  • Oversee the safety of the mining or quarrying operations

  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity

  • Requisition materials and supplies

  • Train workers in job duties, safety procedures and company policies

  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions

  • Ensure raw materials are handled according to organizational quality standards

  • Conduct analyses on process systems if organizational quality standards are not fulfilled and make required changes to correct

  • Assist with continuous improvement by making recommendations to streamline operations or enhance personnel effectiveness

  • Prepare production, MOE, MOM, and other reports

  • Develop, establish, and execute site mine plans for current and future development

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE;

  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in the quarry or mining industry along with supervisory or management experience in a union environment

  • Extensive knowledge of quarry operations, including extraction, processing, and dispatch and working within operating permits (air, water, etc.)

  • Proven experience in implementing and maintaining safety and quality control systems

  • Proficiency with various software programs, including Microsoft Excel, Access, JDE using JDE, etc. for production and workforce management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of the organization

  • A strong commitment to environmental sustainability and compliance with environmental regulations
