POSITION PURPOSE
The Systems Analyst II plays a critical role in the technical analysis, configuration, and/or development of key business systems, ensuring their reliable and efficient operation. This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise, business process understanding, and collaborative skills to deliver effective solutions including within a Microsoft-based technology stack, such as Power Platform and .NET. Working under the guidance of senior analysts and architects, the Analyst II will engage in requirements gathering, system design, quality assurance, and release management, partnering with business and vendor teams to achieve organizational objectives. They may also independently define, plan, and execute small projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts in-depth technical analysis of existing business systems to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
Gathers, documents, and manages business and technical requirements, translating them into clear and concise system specifications, particularly within the Power Platform and .NET environments.
Designs, configures, and/or develops system solutions that meet business needs and aligns with best practices.
Performs quality assurance testing to ensure system functionality, reliability, and performance.
Manages system environments and data, ensuring data integrity and security.
Participates in release management activities, including planning, testing, and deployment of system updates and enhancements.
Collaborates with business stakeholders to understand their needs and provide technical guidance.
Partners with vendor teams to resolve system issues and implement solutions.
Creates and maintains comprehensive technical documentation.
Troubleshoots and resolves system issues in a timely and effective manner.
Independently defines, plans, and executes small projects, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
Works under the guidance of senior analysts and architects, learning and applying best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field preferred.
At least three to five years of experience in systems analysis, design, development, or configuration (or related experience) required.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in system analysis and design methodologies.
Experience with requirements gathering and management.
Knowledge of quality assurance and testing principles.
Understanding of environment and data management practices.
Must be familiar with release management processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with the Microsoft technology stack, including the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) and .NET.
Understanding of database concepts, especially those related to Microsoft SQL Server.

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
