Bachelor's degree required, preferably in biology, medical or social sciences or related field.

-At least 1-3 years of experience in clinical research studies is preferred.

-Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Position Summary:

The Research Specialist within the Department of Neurosurgery will serve as an important member of our clinical research team, working closely with investigators, research subjects, and staff on a variety of projects. This position will report to the Department's Clinical Research Manager and work under the general direction of study investigators and Department leadership.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Outlook).

-Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with research subjects and with PIs, researchers, research staff, and support staff at multiple sites.

-Demonstrated qualities of attention to detail and good social skills.

-Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

-Effective problem solving skills and good judgment.

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:

-Knowledge of clinical research principles and regulations.

-Experience managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols.

-May attend and participate in sponsor's investigator meetings

-May require evening and weekend call work.

-Must be able to travel locally to Madison area study sites to conduct study-related activities and occasionally travel in the region to partnering study locations. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.

To qualify to use a UW vehicle, must have a valid driver's license (driving record will be checked initially and routinely), and meet the UW Risk Management Driving Authorization and Car Fleet requirements and eligibility. Air travel to national conferences and meeting on an infrequent basis may also be required.
