American Family Insurance - Corporate Lead CAT Risk Analyst (Flex Home/Office) in Madison, Wisconsin

Leads, supports, and executes catastrophe risk management tasks and projects in conjunction with related teams in the organization. Will lead and design projects and solutions with other parts of the organization to solve catastrophe risk business problems. With team, propose solutions to business questions and monitor progress of projects.

Position Compensation Range:

$109,000.00 - $186,000.00

Primary Accountabilities

  • Develops and improves the framework of using catastrophe risk management software for data input, model set-up, model execution, result extraction and loss analytics.

  • Leads discussion with business partners to identify their needs and to propose initiatives.

  • Leads building dashboard to provide insights of catastrophe exposure growth utilizing Catastrophe model output.

  • Employs portfolio and underwriting tools to assess perils exposures outside of traditional catastrophe vendor models including but not limited to wildfire, flood, sinkhole, etc.

  • Synthesizes complex catastrophe loss results for practical application to business needs, including DOI filing support.

  • Develops analysis tools, reports, and data to understand the impacts of natural disasters to the enterprise's business, including applying a variety of geospatial analysis techniques to analysis projects.

  • Leads evaluating newer version of catastrophe management software and models and exploring industry best practices and business strategies in earth science technologies.

  • Participates in the selection of research tools and technologies, design of a common research process, and brainstorming new opportunities and methodologies related to earth science.

  • Researches and maintains awareness of industry best practices and business strategies.

  • Proactively brings in new and innovative ideas and approaches to develop business.

  • May be requested to complete other assignments or participate in projects based upon skills, achievements, or experience.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Education Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.

  • Advanced knowledge of Catastrophe management software and catastrophe peril models.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of natural catastrophe risk and it's application to the insurance space and catastrophe modeling.

  • Solid knowledge of earth science and property insurance to perform complex financial, actuarial or business analysis.

  • Solid understanding of geospatial software tools and data.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively.

  • Proficiency in programming languages suitable for database access, scripting, and statistical analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience in using large amounts of structured, semi structured, and unstructured data.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to review complex products, and/or lines of business.

  • Demonstrated experience in making independent decisions and project management methodologies, practices, techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitating the discussion with various team members.
