Salary : $70,000 - $81,000/annually, generous benefits package

Location : Madison or Milwaukee, WI or remote from anywhere in the US

The Opportunity: As Email and SMS Director, you will play a key role within the WisDems Digital Department, quickly spinning up new copy and leaning into high ROI opportunities as they emerge. Reporting to the Deputy Digital Director, this role will be responsible for executing WisDems email and SMS strategy, which includes meeting ambitious fundraising goals and leveraging these channels to assist other departments’ priorities.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee a highly active, reactive, and engaging email and SMS program–including drafting copy, calendaring, message setup, and sending/scheduling.

  • Oversee the Email & SMS team consisting of an Email Manager, Email + SMS Intern, and an integrated consultant that provides email + SMS support.

  • Maintain relationships with consultants and inter-party stakeholders to expand our fundraising goals, grow our email and SMS subscriber lists, and increase our messaging capacity.

  • Collaborate within the department to grow WisDems email and SMS audiences via new and experimental list growth strategies – and nurture new subscribers into donors.

  • Train other departments and staff on using ActionNetwork, and support them as they execute their email programs.

  • Provide email support to party units and similar organizations under the WisDems umbrella including training, toolkit development, customer support, etc. under the Digital Empowerment program and monitor their progress through regular reporting.

  • Manage WisDems’ ActionNetwork and SMS iterations, including and especially data management.

  • Be plugged into social media and the news cycle, constantly flag opportunities for potential fundraising and list growth.

  • Closely monitor and report out email and SMS performance data, and monitor for any deliverability or filtering issues.

  • Manage direct reports in all aspects of their work and support their success by conducting relevant coaching conversations, providing and receiving feedback, and creating an inclusive and engaging team culture. More specific tasks could include but are not limited to:

  • Managing and reviewing time off requests

  • Hiring new team members

  • Having constructive conversations with team members on performance

  • Building rapport and trust within your team

  • Leading projects and delegating tasks

  • On-year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election preparation as necessary.

  • Political or Digital Fundraising Experience - Previous experience effectively carrying out political responsibilities or digital fundraising capacity. 

  • Digital Tools Knowledge - Extensive experience using ActionNetwork, Tatango, ScaleToWin, and WordPress (or comparable tools).

  • Understanding of Digital and Fundraising Analytics - Advanced understanding of digital strategy and fundraising, with a proven track record of executing fundraising and list growth campaigns.

  • Basic Front-End Development Skills - Has a solid working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Excel, Google Sheets, etc.

  • Email Reputation Knowledge - Knowledge of how to track, maintain, and optimize email / SMS reputation.

  • Active Team Player - Excited about working in a creative, inclusive, collaborative, and fast-paced environment with priorities that shift with the news cycle. 

    Qualifications (Preferred):  

  • Work experience on Democratic campaigns or at progressive advocacy organizations.

  • Strong project management skills and previous experience managing an email calendar.

  • Ability to Train others on digital toolsets and best practices.
