United Methodist Church Madison Youth Ministry Coordinator in Madison, South Dakota

Hours per week: 10-12 Hours per week, wages depend on experience

I. Position Information

General purpose of the position: The target audience is youth (6-12 grade), young adults, and their families. This includes but is not limited to developing and overseeing ministries, connections, opportunities, and relationships-that best enable youth and young adults to grow in faith, love others, give generously, and strengthen the church.

Supervision: The coordinator will report to the Pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance. The Pastor, in cooperation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee, provides an annual evaluation of job performance. The coordinator will be responsible and subject to UMC polity and doctrine, local church policy as determined by the charge conference, pastor, and staff parish relations committee.

II. Responsibilities:

Be an advocate for our youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and in the community.

Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a holistic youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach to youth and young adults outside of Madison UMC.-

Currently includes youth group, youth sunday school, attend district and conference events, other seasonal programs.

Coordinate opportunities for youth to participate in worship and other activities

Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities

Recruit, screen, and train volunteers who work in youth ministry

Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth ministries

Work with Education Committee to coordinate Sunday School opportunities for youth-including recruiting and training teachers and creating and communicating schedules, roles, and expectations

Keep records of youth ministry participation and manage the youth and youth ministry budgets and designated funds

Coordinate or support fundraising opportunities throughout the year which strengthen youth ministry-including for mission and camp.

Create and communicate relevant information and promotion materials in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all appropriate resources. Ensure communication with church staff and leadership,parent and the congregation as a whole

Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways (Lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, vision, times of crisis)
