Job Description Summary
The Senior Counsel, Government Business will provide primary Government Business legal support to the GE Aerospace military Rotorcraft & Turboprop Engines (RTPE) business. GE Aerospace’s military engines division has supported the United States and Allied customers for over 75 years. From developing technologies warfighters need to keep their edge to helping customers sustain legacy products in the field, GE Aerospace is a national asset with several current and near-term opportunities to strengthen its position for decades to come.
GE Aerospace’s RTPE business is based in Lynn, Massachusetts, a production facility for General Electric Company since its founding by Thomas Edison in 1892 and current work location for over 2,000 employees. The RTPE business powers United States and foreign military Blackhawk and Apache helicopters with the T700 engine and is developing the next generation of rotorcraft propulsion with the T901.
The successful candidate will collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues, functional support groups, and business teams to enable compliant business growth, invent the future of flight, and deliver cutting-edge products to the warfighter. Preference is given for a candidate with a TS security clearance who is able to work from Lynn, Massachusetts; however, consideration will be given to candidates in Washington, D.C. or Cincinnati, Ohio.
This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel for the GE Aerospace military business.

Provide leaders, stakeholders, and colleagues with expert, practical legal and business advice on complex US Government contracting and business issues
Help shape both strategic and tactical actions within regulatory boundaries to maximize value for customers
Keep the business safe in a highly scrutinized regulatory environment
Work as a member of the Government Business legal department to assist on all aspects of GE Aerospace’s US Government business activities
Provide program-lawyer support for business segments critical to ensuring US and its Allies’ national defense
Deliver specialized government contracts and regulatory counseling for functional organizations that support business segments selling to the US Government
Develop relationships with external customer and regulatory counsels
Lead compliance investigations and initiatives
Under minimal supervision, plan, conduct and supervise complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a significant bearing on GE Aerospace’s business
Manage referral of matters to in-house legal specialists and occasionally outside counsel
Lead with unyielding integrity
Operate with a bias toward speed and simplicity
Embrace Flight Deck – GE Aerospace’s proprietary Lean operating system. Uses Flight Deck principles to simplify processes and reduce cycle time, including standard work, action planning, and problem solving
Anticipate and drive solutions for unassigned legal and business issues and growth initiatives
Basic Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school
10+ years’ experience in US Government contract law with a particular focus on FAR Part 15 contracting
Member in good standing with the bar
Must be a United States Citizen
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret U.S. Government Security clearance
Desired Characteristics
Experience with DoD Business Systems requirements
Knowledge of DoD pricing requirements such as Truthful Cost or Pricing Data, FAR cost principles, and Cost Accounting Standards
Understanding of Export Control restrictions including ITAR and EAR
Familiarity with Acquisition Policy issues such as commercial item contracting, data rights / IP strategies, industrial base issues
Experience regarding DoD data security requirements including CUI and CMMC
In-house experience
Ability to collaborate among all levels of the commercial organization and business
Strong time management, prioritization, analytical, and organizational skills, with ability to meet deadlines and achieve desired result
Excellent customer relationship, communication, and interpersonal skills
Adaptable and capable of managing multiple initiatives, both collaboratively and independently

Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
