BWXT is currently seeking a Quality Engineer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

The Quality Engineer will provide quality engineering support for projects including next generation nuclear reactor design; reactor component development and fabrication; and advanced manufacturing technology development.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Develop inspection and test plans including determination of inspection methods.

  • Write, review, and qualify inspection procedures.

  • Assist with the development of manufacturing plans.

  • Assist design team with the identification of test methods for design verification and validation activities.

  • Provide oversight of dimensional inspection personnel and perform inspections as necessary.

  • Research, evaluate and qualify new inspection equipment and techniques.

  • Support current inspection equipment and systems.

  • Provide support and oversight for engineering, development and testing activities.

  • Participate in review and disposition of nonconformance.

  • Prepare QA data packages.

  • Assist in identifying quality requirements for procurements and reviewing supplier proposals.

  • Review supplier inspection plans and procedures.

  • Review supplier quality documentation.

  • Support additional assignments by management.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of four (4) years of quality engineering experience in a nuclear, defense or aerospace industry is required.

  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of dimensional inspection techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings including understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.

  • Must have knowledge of inspection tools, systems, techniques and NDE methods.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task are required.

  • Must have a demonstrated proficiency in generating technical reports and presentations using MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with product development and prototyping is desired.

  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, NQA-1, ASME NCA-4000 and NASA is desired.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
