BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group (NOG) is currently seeking a Community Engagement Specialist! This is a hybrid position that can be located at any of the following NOG sites: Barberton, OH; Euclid, OH; Mount Vernon, IN; Lynchburg, VA; or Erwin, TN.

The core activities of the position include relationship building, partnership development and maintenance, and coalition building. Given BWXT’s unique institutional partnerships, the staff person must be able to represent BWXT to a wide variety of constituencies and stakeholders including employee groups, institutional leaders, city and state policy makers, nonprofit managers, community activists, and grassroots community members. This position requires experience in the area of community engagement. In addition, the staff person must be an expert communicator across a variety of platforms, from the printed word to various social media outlets.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, implements, and organizes meaningful activities across sites in the U.S. for employees and volunteers that advance the mission and goals of the company.

  • Organizes community outreach programs and coordinates special events that will positively influence public opinion or promote products, services, or ideas of the company.

  • Drafts and distributes/publishes various content pieces that promote the engagement activities across the company.

  • Responds to inquiries from community members and other interested parties; when needed, recruits a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist.

  • Executes special events.

  • Identifies individuals who have the potential to serve as community leaders, and opportunities for leadership development.

  • Develops systems to distribute information to community residents.

  • Works with the social media specialist to implement the creative use of social media platforms to increase citizen engagement and dialogue.

  • Coordinates with Corporate Affairs team members to capture content and write articles for internal and external distribution.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or related field.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of work in public relations or in a field related to the company.

  • Previous professional experience in any of the following: community, labor, parent or issue organizing, community relations, community health education and outreach, event management, or other related experience.

  • Must possess effective communication skills including strong writing skills. Must be able to compose newsletter articles, flyers, and press releases. This requirement assumes proficiency in the use of appropriate computer software.

  • Proficiency in the use of social media.

  • Expert skill in communicating persuasively with diverse audiences ranging from policy-makers and corporate managers to grass roots community residents.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Creativity, sound judgment and the ability to work at times with minimal direction.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work under deadline pressure.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Prolonged periods of standing.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual-citizenship.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Pay: $63,000 - $99,000

The base salary range for this position in Ohio, Virginia, Tennesee, Indiana at the start of employment is expected to be between $63,000 and $​​​​​​​99,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.

Position requires U.S. citizenship with (no dual citizenship) ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
