We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our engineering design team for solar energy and microgrid systems on the Global Engineering Services (GES) Sustainability team. The GES Sustainability team focuses on ensuring we build a strategy, deliver pilots and provide technology for the various verticals in Amazon to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, battery energy storage, hydrogen and microgrid technologies. This position impacts a global set of stakeholders, so ability to consider a diverse set of viewpoints is critical to ensuring that pilot, training, adoption and engagement is appropriate to the locale.

This role will originate, develop and manage solar, wind and microgrid solutions for different applications across the Amazon core business. You will partner with various stakeholders like engineering, program management, safety, operations, learning, and maintenance to implement solutions, all the while generating excitement for the customer experience. You will also be part of the team who works with vendors on improving their technology based on customer feedback from associates through directors. Up to 25% travel required.

This role can be based in London, Paris, Milan, Madrid and Barcelona

Key job responsibilities

i) Defining, prioritizing, and planning deployment of solar, wind and microgrid systems

ii) Conducting total cost of ownership and business case analysis to seek funding approval for pilot projects

iii) Collaborating with technical team members to define engineering requirements and product specifications

iv) Support program and project execution to ensure that the project delivery is to the appropriate levels of quality and in line with its target date and budget

iii) Support key components’ technical and interface requirements including solar panels, electrical and power electronic systems, mechanical components, battery storage systems, wind turbines, power and energy management systems.

iv) Comfortable with internal and external communication to support building partnerships across a wide range of third-party partners, including legacy OEMs and startups

v) Lead white paper and cross functional reviews to gain consensus and leadership buy-in on plan, funding and program status

vi) Support vendor evaluations and assessments including product roadmaps, manufacturing plans, cost targets and site permitting activities

vii) Support the development of plans and strategy for evaluation of the technologies in EU and APAC markets at fulfillment centers, delivery stations and other Amazon buildings.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS required in Mechanical/Electrical engineering

  • Proven experience leading large-scale power and energy programs from start to completion utilizing a multidisciplinary team

  • Experience in solar system, battery storage, microgrid systems and other renewable energy system design and implementation

  • Experience with energy system modelling including solar yield analysis, layout optimization and electrical system integration

  • Experience managing projects from feasibility to implementation

  • Experience in System Engineering or System Architecture development areas

  • Experience dealing and negotiating with suppliers at all levels

  • Experienced in developing technical customer specifications and KPIs at the system levels and ability to critically analyze data in terms of system performance and reliability

  • Experience collaborating with external stakeholders such as vendors, contractors and regulatory authorities to provide end-to-end oversight and drive program deliverables

  • Experienced in creating financial analysis in the energy sector and managing budgets

  • Passionate about clean energy technologies and sustainability

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical/Electrical engineering or related fields is preferred

  • Experience working for leading OEMs/tier one suppliers in the solar industry

  • Experience leading new or start-up related projects where processes will need to be defined, implemented and iterated

  • Experience with hydrogen technologies

  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience in process safety and process equipment design

  • Ability to create structure in an ambiguous environment

  • Fluency in German, French, Polish, Arabic and Turkish
