Tradesperson Leader

Position Description:

Performs supervisory and participatory work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures. Responsibilities include the supervision of a work crew involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures. Duties also include the actual hands-on work in this area. Work is performed under the general supervision of the foreman with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise other assigned workers.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Performs preventative maintenance on kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and food service facilities as needed.

  • Repairs and installs complex equipment that is used in commercial kitchens. Equipment may be powered by electricity, natural gas, or steam.

  • Repairs and installs complex refrigeration equipment. Refrigeration equipment may be self contained or remote. Teams with appropriate contractors if necessary.

  • Tradesperson Leader may supervise two (2) student assistants and (2) summer workers occasionally. Must be able to drive a departmental vehicle and be insurable.

Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Two years experience as a licensed journeyperson in designated trade; or five years related experience. Job-related vocational training or education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
