City of Loveland Electric Utility Field Inspector in Loveland, Colorado

Description

Under the direct supervision of our Distributed Energy Resources Manager, this position coordinates and conducts inspections of private and public projects involving public electric utilities and infrastructure, ensuring they are completed in accordance with both Utility and City standards and specifications.

The salary range for this position is $26.83 - $37.56 per hour with a hiring range of $26.83 - $32.20 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

This opportunity will be available to applicants until the position is filled, with a first reading of resumes on September 18, 2024.

This field position is responsible for the inspection of the Electric Utility’s customers' Solar and DER integration projects. Customer service and engagement throughout the DER integration process is crucial in supporting Platte River Power Authority (PRPA) and its owner communities' vision to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Essential Functions

  • Performs complete and professional electrical inspection duties to determine acceptance and compliance with Loveland Electric’s Requirements for Electric Service (RFES) standards and specifications by rendering objective and impartial decisions in a firm and tactful manner for electrical construction projects in the City of Loveland.

  • Collaborate and support all electric utility divisions with inspection needs including metering, distribution design, engineering, line crews, and distributed energy resources.

  • Collaborate and support the City of Loveland Building Division with electrical inspections for metering, electric service upgrades, new electric service requests, and solar/battery/DER installations.

  • Read, interpret, and enforce applicable Utility RFES, 2023 National Electric Code (NEC) and related standards, construction drawings, working plans, and maps.

  • Provide technical information to contractors and the general public.

  • Track status of projects and any arising concerns.

  • Produce daily logs for assigned projects to effectively document project and construction activities.

  • Interact with developers, contractors, and citizens in an effective and professional manner to address any questions or concerns.

  • Enforces Municipal Ordinances regulating construction, safety, and site development.

  • Provides interpretation, explanations, and clarifications of, as well as information on, adopted codes and ordinances to contractors and the public.

  • Meets and confers with developers, consultants, contractors, employees and the general public regarding engineering and development requirements.

Other Job Functions

  • Represents Loveland Electric Utility in meetings with contractors, developers, and the public.

  • Serves as liaison between the city and contractors and the general public.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School or GED

Required Experience: 1 year of experience performing electrical inspections or related duties to include maintenance and inspection of repairs.

Preferred Experience: Previous knowledge of electric metering, utility service equipment, solar, battery, and other DER interconnections.

Certifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Self-motivated and positive team player able to multitask and prioritize.

  • Ability to interpret and apply codes and ordinances, read construction documents, and enforce regulations.

  • Ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in writing, and to prepare written reports and review comments.

  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.

  • Must be a proficient problem solver and effective in conflict resolution.

  • Must be interpersonally effective at working with contractors and developers, as well as citizens.

  • Working knowledge of Excel and MS Word preferred.

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS.

  • Experience with CityWorks or other asset management systems.

  • Previous knowledge of construction and/or construction materials preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent: Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.

  • Occasional: Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.

Working Environment

  • Frequent: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.

  • Occasional: Exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.

  • Frequent: Exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

  • Occasional: Exposure to hazardous conditions that may lead to workplace injury such as working in heights, exposure to fly ash and/or energized electrical equipment.
