University of Louisville Financial Aid Advisor I in Louisville, Kentucky

Minimum Requirements:Bachelors degree in a related filed or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 3 (Hourly)Position Description:The function of this position is to serve as a financial aid advisor within the Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO). The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for providing quality customer service working alongside SFAO team members managing inquiries and student needs in person, on the telephone, and via e-mail. Counsel students, parents, and others regarding student financial aid and related resources, including advising regarding application and eligibility for federal, state, private, and institutional aid as well as information pertaining to debt management, special circumstances, and matters of financial literacy. Administer financial aid in accordance with federal, state, private, institutional, and other applicable guidelines, policies, and procedures. Support the monitoring, processing, and oversight of day-to-day team processing activities, such as those associated with call management, email service account(s), office visits, counseling appointments, scholarships, professional judgment, satisfactory academic progress, form processing and routing, and certifications. Work with students as well as various staff members, departments, and agencies to certify eligibility, process aid, resolve discrepancies, and troubleshoot problems. Manage assigned team processing and counseling tasks and assist with financial aid presentations and workshops. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Exhibit detail-oriented qualities and demonstrate an ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a high-pressure environment with minimal error.Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and establish priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision.Exhibit skills that include the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, problem-solve, research, and utilize resources.Committed to service excellence and teamwork and must demonstrate strong counseling, interpersonal, and communication skills, and work ethic.Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, electronic mail, and web-based computer applications.Direct or transferable skillset, financial aid program knowledge, and PeopleSoft experience are preferred.Bi-lingual a plus.COMPETENCIESInterpersonal - Build effective, strong working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, management, and others.Service Excellence - Responsive and detail-oriented, to inform students and parents of critical federal, state, and institutional procedures that have an impact on a student’s financial responsibility and literacy.Organized - Manages time effectively and keeps tasks appropriately prioritized.Teamwork - Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others, within and outside the COS team, as well as others outside the financial aid office.
