Overview

This position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and publishing of standards and specifications related to Line Design, Construction, and Materials across PPL’s operating companies. The ideal candidate must be highly focused on safety, self-motivated, innovative, organized, highly skilled in problem solving, and has good presentation skills. Many tasks require novel solutions and creative thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update Line and civil structure standards, criteria, and specification documents to implement industry best practices, and to drive consistent and effective results across PPL Transmission and Substation Engineering, Construction, and Material Procurement.

  • Consult stakeholders and effectively incorporate feedback into Standards’ practices and documents.

  • Drive for consistency and standardization of best practices in engineering instructions and constructions specifications across PPL’s operating companies where possible.

  • Maintain engagement in industry events and conferences and incorporate new technologies and best practices (occasional travel may be required).

  • Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals for consultants that perform Standards Engineering work on behalf of PPL.

  • Manage and oversee contractors and consultants performing Standards Engineering work.

  • Manage and oversee material vendors to improve standards materials and requirements, and to implement new technologies and solutions.

  • Interface with other Departments at PPL to anticipate and address upcoming needs within Line Standards.

  • Work with project teams to review and make a decision on Exception Requests to deviate from PPL Standards that arise during design and/or construction.

  • The responsibilities include various projects and tasks supporting all PPL operating companies across the enterprise.

  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Engineer II Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or other related Engineering discipline and minimum of 2 years’ experience in electric transmission line design, maintenance, inspection, and/or utility construction field experience.

Engineer III Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or other related Engineering discipline and minimum of 5 years’ experience in electric transmission line design, maintenance, inspection, and/or utility construction field experience.

Principal Engineer Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or other related Engineering discipline and minimum of 10 years’ experience in electric transmission line design, maintenance, inspection, and/or utility construction field experience.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Computer skills: CAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI, SharePoint.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

Licensure / Other Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license required.

Remote Work

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change.
