Job Description

U.S. Bank is looking for a Sustainable Finance Product Strategist, to join our new and growing Sustainable Finance Team. The Sustainable Finance Product Strategist will report to the Managing Director of Sustainable Finance.

The bank's Sustainable Finance team – which sits in U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance – takes an interconnected approach, collaborating with leaders from around the company to help identify the most viable products and services to bring to market that empower communities, support inclusive growth, and help clients transition to a low-carbon economy. This work not only helps us meet client needs and market demand, it helps us grow revenue for U.S. Bank – a core a pillar of our strategy.

This multifaceted Product Strategist role requires someone who excels in a dynamic environment, has strong analytical and project management skills, is a creative problem solver and a strong communicator. The ideal candidate is fluent with sustainability megatrends and experienced in banking product development and sustainable finance principles and instruments. The candidate will join a dynamic, strategically important team and contribute to the development of a full suite of sustainable finance products/services to meet current client needs and drive new client acquisition.

Objectives

  • Execute on highest priority business areas of U.S. Bank through sustainable finance product development and go-to-market / pilot planning.

  • Conducting capabilities gap assessment to identify new required capabilities to capture revenue potential and inform business cases.

  • Enhance and build products/services to meet current client needs and drive new client acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Sustainable Finance to develop new/enhanced Sustainable Finance product roadmaps, collaborating with internal stakeholders (Credit, P&L owners, ESG Program Office, Product Leads, Risk, etc.), to ensure a competitive offering that aligns with evolving market needs and corporate sustainability priorities, including U.S. Bank’s 2030 $50 billion Environmental Finance goal, as well as the bank’s Access and Net Zero Commitments.

  • Provide insights on the sustainable finance market landscape and work with commercial teams to understand commercial capabilities, priorities and client needs in order to inform new product strategy development; translate insights into actionable new and/or enhanced products.

  • Develop technical business opportunity cases including value proposition, high-level market opportunity sizing, product channels, high level cost structures, projected revenue streams, ROE, etc.

  • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape and market trends.

  • Ensure compliance with the bank’s sustainable finance framework and environmental and social risk management policies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (business, economics, finance, sustainability)

  • 10 years of relevant banking product development/management work experience: especially related to sustainable finance, sustainability, and/or impact investing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the sustainable finance standards, instruments, and financing solutions (ICMA - GBP, SBP, SLBP, Tax equity, Project finance, etc.)

  • Strong quantitative and benchmarking analysis skills

  • Experience developing and executing an implementation plan for a product vision or strategy.

  • Experience working in the banking sector or in a strategic consulting role is an asset.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally to deliver strategic projects efficiently.

  • Highly skilled in creation of briefing materials, report writing and preparation of presentations.

  • Knowledge of and experience across multiple banking products, notably structured finance

  • Knowledge of banking environmental and social risks and ESRM policies

  • Comfortable with ambiguity

  • Travel expectations: 20%.

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there is an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $165,325.00 - $194,500.00 - $213,950.00
