Position description
We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow to join our laboratory in the Department of Neurology at UCLA. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Daniel Aharoni, the candidate will conduct innovative research focused on the development, validation, and application of advanced microscopy systems enabling large field-of-view neural imaging and patterned optical stimulation. Training in cutting-edge microscopy and optogenetic techniques will be an integral part of this role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing novel microscopy platforms designed for simultaneous imaging and targeted optogenetic stimulation. This work includes the design, integration, and validation of sophisticated optical systems, custom firmware, and graphical user interfaces (GUIs). The candidate will carry out experiments involving neural imaging and targeted optogenetic stimulation across diverse preparations, including behaving animals, brain tissue slices, and neuronal cultures. The candidate will perform data analysis, interpret results, and disseminate findings through scientific publications, presentations at conferences, and training of laboratory members. Other responsibilities include maintaining detailed experimental records, managing laboratory equipment and reagent stocks, and complying with laboratory policies and safety practices.
Qualified applicants should hold a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Physics, or related fields. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in microscopy, optical engineering, and imaging systems, with experience in optogenetic stimulation methods, optical modeling, numerical simulations, and experimental validation. Proficiency in hardware integration, custom firmware programming, and GUI development is essential. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through scientific publications and presentations, are required. The successful candidate will have opportunities to expand their technical expertise and contribute significantly to cutting-edge neuroscience research aimed at understanding complex neuronal networks.
Application procedure: Apply by submitting your application to our online RECRUIT system
at https:/ / recruit.apo.ucla.edu/ JPF10240 along with CV, statement of research, and 3 references (optional). Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Please be advised that the final candidate recommended for hire into a critical (or otherwise designated) position will be required to successfully complete a background investigation. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
The offer of this position is contingent on the successful completion of a background check prior to your first day of employment and evidence of authorization to work in the United States. Also by accepting this offer you are acknowledging compliance with UCLA Health policy by receiving your influenza vaccination prior to your start date.
