UCLA Health Patient Transport Technician 2 - Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, California

Description

As a Patient Transporter, you will be responsible of positioning, transferring and transporting patients to and from various departments or locations by wheelchair, bed, or gurney. You may also perform teaching and training duties, dispatching, and limited clerical duties for the transport function. Other role requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Equipment maintenance and cleaning or disinfection

  • Deliver and pick-up specimens, blood, medical equipment, medical records, medications, and various other items

  • Transport deceased patients to the morgue

Salary Range: $21.12- 27.85 Hourly

Senate Bill 525 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billtextclient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240sb525) was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).

  1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care'.

  2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a current and valid BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.

  • Able to lift, push, pull a minimum of 150 pounds.

  • Ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to the transport of patients in beds, gurneys, and wheelchairs as well as some heavy equipment.

  • Skill in reading and writing in the English language.

  • Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information needed in the transport process of all patients and other items.

  • Ability to understand medical terminology.

  • Ability to operate medical equipment to perform job duties.

  • Ability to transport patients in a safe, efficient, and professional manner appropriate to good public and patient relations.

  • Ability to accept new responsibilities and work harmoniously with all hospital staff.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience on a transport or lift team.

  • Acute care hospital experience and of patient care needs in a hospital setting.
