UCLA Health Laboratory Technician 2, Surgical Pathology Reporting in Los Angeles, California

Are you an experienced professional seeking a dynamic role in Anatomic Pathology? Join our team at the Westwood and Santa Monica Surgical Pathology Reporting Offices!

As a Hospital Laboratory Technician 2, you will play a crucial role in supporting the operations of our surgical pathology reporting offices. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Processing tissue requests for clinical trial submissions, continuation of care, and ancillary testing.

  • Releasing surgical pathology specimens to patients and manufacturers.

  • Managing microscopic slide inventories (onsite and offsite), including the preparation/packaging of biohazardous waste for pickup by contracted waste management vendors.

  • Accessioning pathology cases for add-on immunohistochemistry, special stains, and electron microscopy.

  • Digitally scanning slides for telepathology.

  • Providing exceptional service to faculty, patients, couriers, and vendors.

  • Visiting the offsite warehouse to pull/file materials and package biohazardous waste for waste management transport (via University vehicle).

  • Offering coverage at the Santa Monica Surgical Pathology Reporting Office, as needed.

Salary Range: $32.77/hour - $43.22/hour

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an Anatomic Pathology laboratory setting, and working knowledge of anatomic pathology procedures, practices, and workflows.

  • Familiarity with safe handling and packaging requirements for pathology materials, including glass microscopic slides and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue.

  • Experience working in EPIC or an equivalent laboratory information system.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED or HiSET).

  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver's license in good standing in order to drive University vehicle for retrieving materials and biohazardous waste. Subject to DMV Pull.

  • Capable of meeting physical demands, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, ascending/descending, extending/contracting, and rotating/pivoting.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push or pull up to 1000 lbs. of palletized boxes using a pallet jack.

  • Must accurately read fine print for extended periods.
