Job Description

Do you want to be part of bringing the LEGO Brand to life on the big screen for generations of fans to enjoy? Come join us as our Head of Theatrical Development!

In this newly created position, you will be the LEGO Group’s point of contact for all theatrical productions, representing the brand with our agency and key entertainment partners. You will think creatively and strategically about how to grow our presence in the entertainment world and how to reach our audience in new and exciting ways!

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain overview of all projects in development and provide creative direction on active projects

  • Meet with talent to create curiosity about LEGO films and brainstorm future creative ideas

  • Design custom LEGO Brand Immersion experience for filmmakers and conduct sessions

  • Review treatments and scripts. Set up internal “Creative Braintrust” to solicit input/notes & consolidate internal input for submission to partners

  • Curate list of potential director, writer, talent to work on LEGO entertainment projects

  • Follow up with partners and agencies on a regular and ongoing basis to ensure LEGO projects are prioritized

  • Brainstorm, pitch, research and build materials for development concepts, including one pagers, decks and strategy initiatives as directed.

The LEGO Entertainment Partners and Content team provides thought leadership, innovation and expertise regarding storytelling, licensing and branded entertainment and builds outstanding relationships within the global entertainment & licensing community.

Entertainment content for the LEGO Brand is a key driver of engagement and contributes to building the LEGO Brand and creating fandom. Building on the success of the four theatrical films launched between 2014 and 2019, the Director of Theatrical Development will lead development of new feature films working closely with SVP EPC and with external partners to create a pipeline of high-quality films that are aligned with long-term brand objectives.

Do you have what it takes?

  • A passion for and knowledge of movies

  • Significant experience in the creative development process and production of feature films

  • Strong, reputable, and proven story development experience and ability to successfully pitch ideas

  • An established reputation and relationships with producers, directors, writers, agents, talent, and creative community in general

  • Ability to effectively conduct outreach to creative community to encourage external pitches; provide clear direction in all facets of development

  • Team player who thrives in a collaborative work environment

  • Global perspective and appreciation for different cultures

  • The salary for this position has a range of <$151,000 - $226,000> based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
