    Position description

The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for a Full Researcher in Space Physics. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in physics, geology/earth science, or a related field.

The person hired will work on problems associated with the stability of solar and stellar coronal magnetic field configurations, the conditions required for Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) initiation, magnetic reconnection in the corona for driving the dynamic transition between open and closed field regions with implications for the formation of the slow solar wind, streamer blobs and small-scale magnetic flux ropes. The ideal candidate should be familiar with developing and running magnetohydrodynamic simulation codes, interpreting the results of numerical simulations and running diagnostics that can be compared to both remote sensing and in situ data as provided by ongoing missions such as Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter.
