FINANCIAL CONTROL AND REPORTING ANALYST SENIOR
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
As a member of the Controller's department, the Financial Control and Reporting Analyst Senior is responsible for the monthly, quarterly and year-end internal financial reporting of City National Bank ("CNB") results. The role is integral in the integration of CNB with RBC parent company teams, including collaborating with key CNB Finance and RBC Finance and other functional leaders for items related to CNB's results. This role also supports initiatives related to process improvements, report automation, policies and procedures documentation and other special projects when needed.
What you will do
Lead the reporting process around the monthly Flash financial statement package that is circulated to senior management. Prepare the Flash financial reports and analytical write-up that accompanies the financial statement package. Ensure financials are accurately presented and distributed timely.
Lead interaction between CNB with RBC Wealth Management and head office teams (Head Office Performance Management, Investor Relations, External Reporting, Financial and regulatory reporting, etc), including monthly and quarterly financial and management reporting, NIAT estimate process, contributing to external disclosures and other ad hoc analysis as it pertains to actual results.
Participate in monthly, quarterly and year-end deliverables including GL closing process and general ledger activities.
Act as a key contact for internal and external inquiries related to CNB financial results and related management reports.
Monitor and review the financial results of CNB/RBC Consolidation adjustments unit (PAA), which includes all IFRS and purchase accounting impacts, as well as RBC functional and T&O allocations to CNB. Prepare forecast, plan and 5 year outlook for PAA.
Continuously look for efficiencies and synergies in the CNB and RBC reporting workflow by building partnerships with stakeholders across the organization.
Assist in the maintenance of CNB general ledger mapping to RBC general ledger and CNB PeopleSoft reporting trees.
Support various accounting and reporting analyses and technical accounting research when needed. Maintain technical understanding of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
Assist in annual (or as needed) impairment assessment of goodwill and intangibles.
Support the automation of CNB internal reporting, implementation of new technology systems, and seek to "Simplify and Transform" the reporting and analytical processes.
Assist in developing, documenting and maintaining policies and procedures related to the functions handled by the Controller's group.
Collaborate with the Finance Division colleagues to implement process changes.
Assist with special projects, including initiatives from Royal Bank of Canada ("RBC"), as requested.
Must-Have*
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of accounting or reporting experience
Skills and Knowledge
Certified Public Accountant ("CPA") preferred, or working towards completing required coursework to sit for the CPA exam
Background in the Banking or Financial Services industry
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as confidence to "speak up" with poise to deal with challenging situations
Advanced Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting preferred
Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards, including those relating to banking and financial services industry
Ability to work independently and manage numerous priorities simultaneously
Ability to execute thoughtful analysis and acting with a sense of urgency and purpose when facing challenges
Strong project management skills
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of colleagues, both within the Finance Division and throughout the bank
Advanced experience in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and financial modeling
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and excellent work ethic
Commitment to and evidenced pursuit of continuing education related to the role
Compensation
Starting base salary: $78,970 - $126,140 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
