Mixlab Director of Pharmacy Operations in Los Angeles, California

Mixlab, the fast-growing veterinary compounding pharmacy, is hiring a Director of Pharmacy to help us scale our California pharmacy. We are looking for a Director who is detail oriented and is driven by an ability to #makeithappen for our customers and their furry (and scaly!) friends no matter what. You will be an integral part in helping us to ensure our pharmacy operations run smoothly, and to make Mixlab a 100% dependable resource for our customers and veterinarians alike.

This is a full-time, salaried role. Compensation will be dependent on individual qualifications, experience, and skillset.

Hours of Operation are Monday-Friday: 8AM-6:00PM.

Operations/Workflow Management Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day site operations and output including overseeing processing and logistics, compounding in non-HD and HD labs, implementation of new equipment for quality and efficiency improvement, and ensuring efficient utilization of workspaces by lab staff.

  • Manage and improve the flow of orders within & between process areas, compounding, final verification and shipping to ensure on-time delivery for clients.

  • Coordinate with PIC to ensure compliance with all relevant State and Federal Laws as well as relevant guidelines such as USP 795 and 800

  • Collaborate with PIC in order to deliver consistent 100% adherence to production metrics in order to meet backstock goals.

  • Ensure daily script and lab output goals are achieved.

  • Review and analyze reports on workforce management, on time delivery, and quality to ensure a smooth operation.

People Management Responsibilities:

  • Direct and Manage operations team consisting of Compounding Technicians, Compounding Pharmacists, Department Leads, and PIC in the execution of daily/weekly operating plans. Total staff is 40 employees and growing!

  • Direct reports include the PIC who manages the compounding lab, 2 verification Pharmacists, and the Processing Manager overseeing processing.

  • Provide guidance and feedback as a subject matter expert to internal teams on compounding, workflow questions, operational goals, projects etc.

  • Partner with Sr. Director of Pharmacy Operations on headcount planning, hiring, and employee development for the LA site.

Process & Quality Improvement Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead all site projects as assigned by leadership and ensure all timelines are met.

  • Assist in formulary management.

  • Improve inventory and spatial organization based on growth and change in the lab.

  • Work alongside the quality team to enable and ensure robust quality assurance processes including formulary updates, compounding processes and procedures, and new training implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You are a licensed certified pharmacist in CA, in good standing with all State Boards of Pharmacy. You must maintain the CA state license and other licenses as needed.

  • You have 5+ years of Managerial experience with a team of 15 or more.

  • You have 2+ years of experience and formal training in non-sterile compounding, with preference given to veterinary compounding experience.

  • Your attention to detail is impeccable, and you have incredibly high standards for accuracy and quality.

  • You are collaborative and have a desire to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, startup environment.

Physical requirements:

  • Position requires good hand-eye coordination and the ability to lift up to thirty pounds.

  • Position requires standing for long periods of time.
