This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 3 or R&D Engineer 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The W93 System Development and Realization Group (Q-20) is seeking a Research and Development Engineer 3/4 to lead and manage the W93 Thermal Qualification team. Colloquially, this role is known as the Thermal Qualification Lead. You will work with the W93 Qualification, Test, and Evaluation (QTE) Director to build, develop, and manage the team responsible for planning, executing, and reporting on the component, sub-system, and system thermal tests and analyses for the W93/Mk7.

This is an opportunity to be part of the first new weapon system program in over 30 years. Q-20, W93/Mk7 Systems Development and Realization Group, defines, develops, and fields the warhead system for the newest Navy sub-launched ballistic missile weapon program. We support the DoD/Navy SSP and DoE/NNSA customers in defining the mission need and corresponding technical and programmatic requirements. The W93 collaborates closely with Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin Space design agencies, developing the re-entry system, ensuring safe, secure, & reliable warhead performance and a relevant nuclear deterrent. Q-20 also incorporates the production agency teams (KCNSC, Pantex, SRS, Y-12, LANL, and SNL) tightly into the design, qualification, and realization processes.

The Thermal Qualification Lead will work with Q-20 system engineers, product realization teams, and other qualification domain team leads to develop a thermal qualification program. The selected candidate will support the development of the Environmental Specification (ES), related to thermal environments. They will be responsible for contributing to the Certification Plan (CQ) which details the testing and analysis strategy for achieving full requirement validation and verification and design qualification for the War Reserve and Joint Test Assembly. They will interface with the NNSA and US Navy customers, Sandia National Laboratories, Lockheed Martin Space and the Atomic Weapons Establishment's Replacement Warhead program (UK).

Minimum Job Requirements:

Thermal Qualification Lead (R&D Engineer 3) $122,300-$206,300

Engineering Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures, as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, testing, analyzing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions.

Engineering Design: Thorough knowledge and experience in the design basis qualification process and test and analysis engineering of a nuclear weapon system, subsystem, or components with data needs and components from multiple stakeholders

Program/Project Management:

• In-depth knowledge of and demonstrated experience in program or project management of technical or operational work, including defining work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; and managing risk

• Demonstrated use of project management principles and tools to deliver product on schedule, while engaging multiple projects with differing priorities

Networking: Demonstrated experience in interacting and integrating effectively with external and internal interfaces (to include DoD, NNSA, and other agencies); building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts while nurturing relationships

Thermal Qualification Lead (R&D Engineer 4) $146,800-$254,700

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

Collaboration: Demonstrated record of developing and leading successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.

Engineering Design: Advanced knowledge and experience in designing and executing component, sub-system, and system thermal level tests and analyses with data needs and components from multiple stakeholders

Education/Experience at lower level : Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.

Education/Experience at higher level : Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

• Active Q Clearance or equivalent DoD clearance

• Experience with US Navy nuclear weapon system design and engineering

• Mechanical or Systems Engineering degree

• Knowledgeable of requirement derivation, traceability, and verification

• Experience with nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance (The Weapon Acquisition Lifecycle (Phase 6.X or X process))

• Knowledge of nuclear weapons, NNSA facilities, or DOD customers

Work Environment:

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position will have access to the 5/40 or 9/80 schedules.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
