Los Alamos National Laboratory ServiceNow Software Developer (Software Developer 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Application and Data Services (ADS) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) enterprise applications and performs software application development support, database development and administration, data analytics and business intelligence, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Business Applications and Data Services Group (ADS-BADS) provides application development, commercial off-the-shelf application implementation, adoption/integration with Software as a Service solutions, data analytics/business intelligence, process automations, and application and infrastructure maintenance services specific to the institution's core business solutions (HR, finance, logistics, etc.).

Software Developer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

Working alongside some of the brightest minds, you will be involved in upkeep of various Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and custom applications, the design and development of new applications and standards, providing data analytics and business intelligence solutions to our customer organizations, designing and developing system integrations and process automations, and ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies. The selected candidate will work as a Software Developer in the Business Applications and Data Services group (ADS-BADS) on the HR (Human Resources) Team responsible for the ServiceNow HR Service Delivery (HRSD) module and ServiceNow platform and its components for the institution and will work closely with our customer and sister IT organizations to ensure the highest quality delivery of IT solutions within our existing architecture. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of IT concepts, a strong understanding of HR business needs, and a general desire to learn new technologies, having a history of continuously gaining expertise within their field. You should have an eye for detail and understand the importance of documentation.

Software Developer 4 ($112,000 - $186,700)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at the senior software developer level, you will provide mentoring to junior staff members and will be expected to work independently in the identification and implementation of IT solutions. You will have expert knowledge and proficiency in a variety of technologies and platforms, and will provide input on the design, development, and implementation of complex solutions. We are looking for someone who can work with limited supervision and use independent judgment for determining the course of action to accomplish objectives.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience with ServiceNow.

  • Proficiency in ServiceNow scripting languages such as JavaScript, Glide, and ServiceNow APIs.

  • Strong understanding of ServiceNow platform features, including UI policies, business rules, client scripts, and workflows.

  • Experience with ServiceNow implementation, configuration, and customization.

  • Experience developing integrations.

  • Strong understanding of a software development lifecycle and all its phases, including requirements, design, development, and testing.

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer support including configuring, administering, and debugging technical issues with various IT systems.

  • Ability to work well with others across multiple teams to gather, anticipate, track, and incorporate new requirements while maintaining configuration management and version control.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers and all levels of external and internal personnel, technical and non-technical.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Expert knowledge with UI, SQL, HTML and CSS.

  • Advanced knowledge and abilities to solve unique IT problems using analytic abilities and innovative thinking to simultaneously meet budget, schedules, and solution objectives.

  • Extensive experience supporting, extending, enhancing, and upgrading Commercial of the Shelf Products (COTS).

  • Ability to work independently with a minimal direction and/or serve as a Technical Lead on projects and coordinate technical activities of project personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience and willingness to provide mentorship to junior staff members.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing tools such as Jira and/or Confluence

  • Experience developing or managing integrations with Oracle EBS.

  • ServiceNow certifications.

  • Experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban framework.

  • Knowledge of the DevSecOps culture and principles and experience in CI/CD development, and deployment of software in a diverse application environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of Agile methodologies and principles.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to support end-users, negotiate and use proper judgment to resolve conflicts, solve problems, increase efficiency, and improve services and products with minimal management assistance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
