Los Alamos National Laboratory Quantum Information Postdoctoral Researcher in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Computer, Computational, and Statistical Sciences Division (CCS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is currently seeking highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral position in quantum computing and quantum information theory. LANL is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The successful candidate for this role will work independently and as part of a team on numerous aspects of quantum computing and quantum information. A main goal is to produce the foundational research needed to understand the full potential and limitations of quantum information processing using first generation fault-tolerant quantum devices that are expected to have a limited number of logical qubits. You will also conduct research to identify areas of promise and develop theoretical and computational tools for quantum computers and communicate research results through reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field from an accredited college or university (completed within the past five years or soon to be completed)

  • Substantial experience in one or more of the fields of quantum error correction, quantum information, quantum algorithms, quantum simulation, or theoretical computer science.

  • Demonstrated research ability, as evidenced by publications, reports, presentations, and/or awards.

  • Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by publications and a cover letter that addresses the job requirements.

  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
