Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate to carry out collaborative research in ultrafast nanophotonics and optoelectronics. This position will develop fundamental understanding of light-matter interactions and potential microelectronic and spintronic applications by exploiting plasmonic nanostructures and metasurfaces integrated with a variety of materials ranging from conventional semiconductors and magnetic materials to emerging two-dimensional quantum materials.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in micro- and nano-fabrication processes, tools, and metrology

  • Experience in optics and spectroscopy

  • Demonstrated record of scientific achievement through publications and presentations

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

  • Ability to conduct research independently.

Education : A PhD degree in experimental physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering or science, materials science, or a related field, completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in ultrafast, nonlinear, and/or quantum optics

  • Experience in modeling photonic systems using FDTD and/or finite element methods

  • Experience in semiconductor physics, 2D electronic and quantum materials, and/or related topics

  • Experience in metamaterials and metasurfaces

  • Experience in optoelectronics and/or spintronics

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative group environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
