Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work both independently and in a team environment on numerous aspects of theoretical quantum sensing/metrology/estimation and theoretical quantum optics. The successful candidate will be part of a large project involving collaboration between theorists and experimentalists at LANL. The research will concentrate on optical quantum sensing based on the phenomenon of quantum induced coherence by path identity. The position provides opportunity to perform fundamental research on quantum sensing schemes utilizing entangled light. More broadly, the successful candidate will play an important role in extending quantum sensing research at LANL.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in Physics from an accredited college or university (completed within the last 5 years). The candidate will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by the commencement of the appointment. The candidate must demonstrate substantial research experience in one or more of the fields of theoretical quantum optics and quantum information. The successful candidate must be able to produce high quality research, as evidenced by past publications, reports, presentations, awards, etc. Preference will be given to candidates with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Education : Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or closely related fields is strongly preferre

Desired Qualifications:

  • Research experience in theoretical quantum optics, quantum information and/or atomic/molecular physics

  • Background in quantum sensors and/or interferometers

  • Ability to use Mathematica, Python, or other scientific computing language.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $92,000. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
